Neel and I had a lovely relaxed child free evening at the Merlin’s Cave in Chalfont St. Giles. We’ve been here about a year back with the kids and had a great time back then and I’ve been wanting to go again but just never got around to it!
The kids were sorted for the evening but we hadn’t decided till the last minute where we were going! We hadn’t booked (which is silly for a Friday evening!) and it was very crowded when we reached….but fortunately that was just the bar area and there were plenty of tables in the restaurant section!
I had a ‘Goat’s Cheese, Shallot & Spinach Tart’ for starters and ‘Spiced Sweet Potato & Vegetable Tagine’ for mains. Over the last few months my food preferences have been leaning towards vegetarian meals with the occasional fish! And I am quite enjoying the shift!
Neel on the other hand had his regular meat though he did try something different for his starter – ‘Pan-fried wood Pigeon with Puy lentils, pancetta, apple, radish and sherry jus’ and a ‘Beef Burger’ for mains!
I loved both my starter and mains along with a glass of lovely Sauvignon Blanc!
On the other Neel though his food was ok – his pigeon was over cooked so a bit tough while the Puy lentils lacked flavour. And his brioche burger bun had a soggy bottom! But he did enjoy his Estrella Damm!!
Food aside, the ambience is lovely and we had a great time! We will be back but not so soon!
