I’ve been a bit silent on this blog so apologies! Just been very busy with the festive season!
School’s finally over and all of us are looking forward to the break! The kids have had a hectic couple of weeks and are so tired I think they are really going to sleep in tomorrow morning…..which means I can have a lie in too so I thought I’d stay up and complete some pending posts. I’m not sure I’ll get past the first post as I’m quite tired myself but we’ll see!!!
Its been a while since I met my book club gang so we decided to have a Christmas dinner at Gusto in Chorleywood with each person bringing a Secret Santa gift of £10.
So before I get to the food bit (which was awesome!)….since this was a book club dinner let me briefly touch upon the two books we had read since our last meeting.
The Heart’s Invisible Furies – John Boyne…..this one was a masterpiece that kept me gripped from start to finish. The book takes you through a while range of emotions….and will make you laugh and cry as you read about Cyril’s life….his search for a sense of self and belonging!
And the second book is: This is Going to Hurt – Adam Kay…..this one is extremely hilarious but at the same time painfully sad!!! Adam Kay was a former doctor and has written about his time as a Junior Doctor. An absolute must read!
And now lets get stuck on the food! Gusto Bistro is a lovely little Italian bistro located on Chorleywood High Street. I visited Gusto a year ago with the family on our anniversary and loved the food back then but somehow never ended up going again for a year so was really looking forward to this visit!
Gusto Bistro is run by Chef Allan who is a such a wonderful, friendly person. He puts so much love and passion into his food that you want to savour every mouthful! We pre-ordered the food (starters and mains) from the menu provided. Its a bring your own booze restaurant which suited us perfectly fine!
For starters I had the Crispy Goats Cheese wrapped in Filo Pastry and the ‘Seared Fillet of Sea Bream’ for mains. They both looked lip smackingly good and tasted truly amazing! Everyone else’s food also looking lovely….however I should mention there were two people that had ordered the Chicken main course and they both didn’t enjoy it too much! Plus the chicken portion size for that was also huge!!!
After we were done with our food, Chef Allan offered us desserts. I can’t remember what they were but they all sounded delicious, however we were all so full that nobody had any room left for dessert!!!
Maybe sometime we can pop in just for desserts!
