I’ve been reading about Dapur Mariae (which is Malaysian for Mariae’s kitchen) for a while on the ‘WD3 foodies’ group on facebook and was very keen to try her food after seeing so many positive recommendations!
I got in touch with her a couple of months back and decided to book a surprise Malaysian supper club for the family with her for our anniversary! I planned the menu in advance after receiving recommendations from Mariae based on our family food preferences. She was also happy to make something special and non spicy for the kids which was lovely!
The idea of eating in someone’s house seems a bit strange at first and to be honest I was not sure what to really expect. However Mariae and her husband Gerrard are such a lovely couple – so warm and friendly and our interaction with them added so much to the amazing Malaysian food experience!
Our menu for the evening:
Starters: Veg Curry Puffs, Salmon Fish Cakes & Chicken Satey
Mains: Mango Salad, Chicken Rendang, Prawn Sambal, Butter Prawns (for the kids), and Rice
Dessert: Appam Balik
The food and hospitality were both outstanding! My favourite was the Veg Curry Puffs (starter) and Prawn Sambal (mains). There was so much food that we couldn’t finish it – and they packed it all up for us to take home! And it tasted even better the next day!
They are based at Maple Cross and I would highly recommend them to anyone who loves Malaysian food or is open to trying out a new cuisine!
